Estimates

Cards on file for estimating: what changes when you stop invoicing by hand

Cards on file change estimating more than any other billing decision, and most companies resist them for a season too long.

The objection is that customers will not agree. In practice they mostly do, because it is how they already pay for everything else, and because it means never having to remember you.

What it removes is the entire chase: no invoice unread, no cheque late, no month spent asking. The estimate is done, the card runs, the receipt goes out.

It also changes cash flow. Revenue arrives on a schedule instead of whenever people get round to it, which matters when payroll does not wait.

Get it in at signup, when they are already saying yes. Asking an existing customer to add a card mid-season is a much harder conversation.
